Vague

Vague originates from a desire to explore the mechanisms of memory and their role in the construction of identity. The project investigates the dichotomy between an experience as it is lived in a specific moment and its subsequent mnemonic reconstruction: how do we relate to an existence whose image is distorted by vague, missing, or false information? Is it possible to make sense of the past and coexist with it when what remains is a web of contradictions?

At the center of the narrative is Tommaso, an elderly masked man confronting a traumatic past and its ambiguous representation in his memory. Through his relationship with his sister, the work explores emotional dynamics and the fractures that emerge when facing shared yet unstable memories.

The ambiguity of identities, relationships, and events is evoked through mythological figures such as Mnemosyne and Lethe — memory and oblivion — as well as through the element of water, which recurs in the video projections, scenic elements, and the morphology of the soundscape.

Vague unfolds as a multidisciplinary device intertwining theatre, dance, music, video, and puppetry. The project reflects on how different languages can interact, influence one another, and generate new possibilities of meaning.
